Poetry of Silence, The
Synopsis:
What happens when a painting comes to life? Drawing on the stark images of the Danish painter Vilhelm Hammershoi, this play seeks to engage the audience in a dance of perception, repression and love. Vilhelm manipulates his wife Ida until she breaks out from his constraints, revealing the complexity of their life behind the seemingly bleak canvases of their apartments in Copenhagen. At the same time Ada, an unemployed actress, agrees to become the model of a contemporary painter, William. As their working method unfolds, William oversteps the agreed boundaries in their relationship with problematic consequences. Interwoven with these is the stumbling relationship between Church of England priest, Terence and Otto, a fringe dweller of the art scene who meet during an exhibition of Hammershoi's work at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.
