A native New Yorker, Michael Sgouros has enjoyed performing in a variety of musical settings which have included the American Symphony, Philharmonia Virtuosi, Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus and the Broadway productions of The Secret Garden, Falsettos, The Goodbye Girl, Sunset Boulevard, Miss Saigon and Phantom of the Opera. He has toured nationally with A Chorus Line and has traveled to Singapore with the touring production of Anything Goes. A founding member of the Ethos Percussion Group during his 15 year tenure with the group he toured nationally and internationally performing, recording and commissioning new works for percussion. He remains an advisory board member of the ensemble today. Michael is also currently a member of the Off Broadway Theatre Alliance, the Broadway League and the League of Off Broadway Theatres and Producers. Mr. Sgouros has served as music director and composer for the Off Broadway shows Percussion People, The Selfish Giant, Treasure Island, Stone Soup, A Christmas Carol, Cinderella, Phantom of the Opera (Sgouros and Bell), The Little Mermaid, Alice In Wonderland, Tico Tales, Sleepy Hollow and Beauty and the Beast. Most recently he traveled to Teatro Jaco in Costa Rica as music director and composer for Tico Tales. He has worked professionally as drummer/percussionist with Eartha Kitt, Mandy Patinkin, Michael Rupert, Bernadette Peters, Martin Short, Danny Aiello, Michael Kamen, Alison Janney, Laura Linney, Jake Weber and Richard Thomas. He has also collaborated with notable percussionists Glen Velez, Stefan Harris, Michael Markus, Danny Druckman, Howard Joines and Samir Chatterjee. Michael has been honored by the National Foundation of the Arts and is a winner of the National Music Week Concerto Competition. Mr. Sgouros has been a panel speaker for The Juilliard School, Chamber Music America and the Percussive Arts Society as well as an adjudicator for Drum Corps International. A graduate of New York's Performing Arts High School and The Juilliard School, Michael is owner of The Players Theatre (www.theplayerstheatre.com) in New York City. The facility includes, a main stage 200+ seat Off Broadway theatre, the 50 seat Steve and Marie Sgouros theatre, 4 rehearsal studios, an office suite for arts organizations and the famous Cafe Wha?, which has been a Greenwich Village mainstay since the 1960's.

Stone Soup
Synopsis:
Set in the Revolutionary War America, two lost soldiers stumble upon the "perfect" village while searching for food and shelter. Unfortunately, the villagers are not so willing to share with these weary men until the soldiers begin to make their favorite meal-Stone Soup. This classic fable, told with mirth and music, makes us realize that anything is possible if we all work together. To further the message of community, the audience is asked to bring canned goods to place in our soup pot which will be given to City Harvest. Recommended for ages 3 to 103!
