Janece Shaffer is a nationally produced, award-winning playwright. Her newest play, the Geller Girls, will receive its world premiere in 2014 at the Alliance Theatre under the direction of Artistic Director Susan V. Booth. This will mark her fifth world premiere production at the Alliance Theatre. Her Alliance credits include: Broke (debuted in 2011, winner of the 2012 Gene Gabriel More Best New Play Award and to be produced in Seattle in 2013), Managing Maxine (commissioned by the Alliance, winner of the 2008 Edgerton Foundation New American Play Award and then later produced at the Asolo Repertory Theatre and Human Race Theatre), Bluish and He Looks Great in a Hat. Ms. Shaffer's play Brownie Points (2010 Gene Gabriel Moore Best New Play Award) debuted at Atlanta's theatrical Outfit under the direction of Jasmine Guy in 2010 and was then presented at Seattle's Taproot Theater and Lamb's Players Theatre in San Diego. Ms. Shaffer has developed work at: Alabama Shakespeare Festival; Theatre J; True Colors Theatre Company; Sacramento Theatre Company; Horizon Theatre; San Diego Repertory Theatre; and with New Rivers Dramatist. In 2010, Ms. Shaffer was invited to be the guest playwright for the Alliance Theatre's Collision Project and was also a member of the Alliance's inaugural 2007-2008 Atlanta Writer's Lab. Ms. Shaffer resides in Atlanta with her husband and daughter.

Short Story of Michael Fish

Synopsis:
After years living abroad, Julia Mahood returns home for middle school. No one is more excited to see her than Michael Fish, her childhood friend who remembers everything about her younger self -- even her second grade Halloween costume. When Will, the inarticulate star of the basketball team, begs Michael to help him woo Julia, he agrees. But as Julia falls for Will (who is actually Michael sending her text messages), Michael realizes that in helping his friend, he is also hurting himself.
