Burke
Synopsis:
It may be 33 years since Elvis shuffled off his mortal coil, but his sequinned spirit lives on, making regular appearances in theatre, film and cabaret. the King haunts the latest piece of new writing brought to the stage by Edinburgh-based theatre company Siege Perilous. Suspicious Minds, by emerging writer Caroline Dunford, focuses on the tangled personalities of four friends, moving between past and present to explore the notion that who we are as adults is shaped by who we were as children. Dunford, who is a member of the Crime Writers association, has spun her yarn in the form of a mystery, and with sex, drugs, rock'n'roll and the death of a life-log Elvis fan thrown into the mix for good measure, a compelling night of theatre is on the cards.

This highly experimental new writing by Lucy Nordberg was showcased at a performed reading at Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2008 at the Bedlam theatre. King Arthur' illuminates aspects of today's big political questions, including the contradictions involved in imposing democracy on other cultures and the alienation of immigrant youth. Standing Stanes
Synopsis:
Standing Stanes' is a wry political comedy. It centres on a young man who, fired with entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to improve his community, endures a tireless journey as he comes face-to-face with the bureaucracy of larger-than-life, verging on cartoonesque officials. Set in the 1980s when it was originally penned, it has a charming retro appeal. there are many similarities between the UK political and economic landscape at that time and today; recession, austerity, unemployment, a Tory (led) Government. the play also talks of the Cold War between the East and West and though that no longer exists, there is a potential battle looming in the UK between North and South as the country debates the issue of Scottish independence.
