Stop Press
Time Out
Stop Press
Synopsis:
*Writing Award Winner*the late 1950s: the local newspaper of a sleepy market town is threatened by a take-over and inevitable modernisation. Geraldine, the consultant appointed by the buyers, conducts a review. Her investigations uncover a potential scandal that could close the paper down, and the revelation of her recent affair with one of the reporters adds to the intrigue. Meanwhile other staff face various personal crises, heightened by the uncertainties of the future. Comedy and poignancy blend in this faithful period piece, culminating in a conclusion that anticipates the harsher values of a changing society. An optional companion piece to Time Out.

Time Out
Synopsis:
An amateur Dramatic society puts on its annual production. A hackneyed text, an incompetent stage-manager and egotistical leads (Trevor and Greta) undermine any chance of success. Tension is increased by Trevor`s refUSAl to contemplate his deteriorating marriage to Val, another cast member. Seen from backstage in real time, the action covers the end of Act One, the interval, and the beginning of Act Two. Increasing chaos culminates hilariously in the merging of both sides of the cyclorama, when Greta improvises despairingly to cover Val`s desertion. Set in the present, makes an ideal companion piece to Stop Press.
