Endoftheworld Lovesong

Synopsis:
Endoftheworld Lovesong is a new play that eerily takes place NOT too far in the future. A triple-digit heat wave has become the norm for an average summer day, the once Texas-sized collection of plastic in the ocean has doubled in mass, and the sun looks redder. It's a quiet Monday morning. In a hopelessly cramped and secluded construction office tucked below the sun-scored L.A. streets, June Ballard is having another panic attack. On the radio, a crazed host proclaims the end of civilization. In other news, the oceans belch plastic waste, wildfires blaze across the east, the Southland enters its 19th day of record-breaking heat, unemployment's shamefully high, and somewhere in the ether, two disembodied voices sing a lonesome lullaby. . . Before next Monday, June will fall helplessly in love, shaking her world to its core.

Explanation In Three Parts

Synopsis:
theater company Panoply Performance Laboratory (PPL) and experimental music ensemble thingNY construct a vast, subjective map of ideas, a documentary about time itself. the absurdity of completely explaining the subjective histories, cultural role, and science of time is balanced with the earnest attempt to do just that. This musically-driven performance art piece features performers of radically different backgrounds working together to create a form of performance that exists simultaneously in and outside of time, expressing and describing through video, web-based durational media and an accompanying printed book that extends the performance beyond the duration of the live performance. the work is influenced by the chance-based and aleatoric modes of the music of John Cage and Gerard Grisey, the durational modes of the performance art of Tehching Hsieh and Bas Jan Ader, as well as the philosophies and science of Husserl, Einstein, William James, Heidegger, and many others.
