Treasure Island ~ A New Musical
Synopsis:
Bristol, England. A dreary seaside Inn. Our hero, Jim Hawkins, dreams of adventure on the high seas. One day as Jim is performing his mundane tasks, Billy Bones, a drunken sea captain appears at the Inn with his sea-chest. Bones is pursued by bloodthirsty pirates who seek the treasure map he is believed to possess. Upon Bones' death, Jim and his mother open the sea chest and find the coveted treasure map. Jim and his friends, Squire Trelawney and Doctor Livesey decide to outfit a ship, the Hispaniola, and sail for the treasure themselves. Although they hire a brave and capable captain, they are naively fooled into hiring a crew selected by Long John Silver, who secretly seeks the treasure. While sailing toward the island, Jim overhears plans of a mutiny and brings the news to his superiors. As land is sighted, the crew has divided into two groups: the loyal seaman and the vicious mutineers - leaving Jim torn between the two. Set to a contemporary theatrical score and full of daring action and adventure, Treasure Island ~ A New Musical examines the essence of heroism, the journey to maturity, and the strength of the human psyche in the face of extreme conditions.
