Melanie Spencer studied BA English Literature at University of East Anglia and holds an MA in Text and Performance with Distinction from RADA and Kings College. She is Director of Made By Brick and is Creative Associate at the Gate, former Associate Artist at Southwark Playhouse and was Resident Assistant Director at HighTide 20122013. She was part of Chichester Festival Theatre's Young Playwrights scheme from 2009-2011. As Director credits include Chicken (Made By Brick/Southwark Playhouse), Sense (Made By Brick/Hen & Chickens), Honest (Made By Brick/George Tavern), White Day (All The Pigs/New Diorama) and Neighbors (HighTide (2012)/Public Theater, New York). As Assistant Director credits include The Promise (Donmar Trafalgar), Sunset Baby and Wittenberg (Gate), Boys (Head long/ HighTide), Souvenirs (Tamasha) and Bea (On Theatre).

Daisy is sixteen. She was normal. Now shes just an ill person with a disease no one has heard of. The hospital tells her father Peter that she must travel regularly to London for specialist treatment  but how on earth will he get time off work? Theres one person he could ask for help. Problem is, Daisys not going to like it. . .Responsible Other is a bittersweet comedy which examines the complexities of family life.
