Al Takes a Bride
Synopsis:
On a moonlit riverbank, over a hundred years before the U.S. Congress passes the Defense of Marriage Act, two young southern women imagine their wedding to each other. Full of lyrical suspense and based loosely on a high-profile, turn of the century murder case, Al Takes a Bride hinges on impossible choices, where decisions rest somewhere between dreaming and dying.

Sweetness
Synopsis:
The intertwining of four people--Demetrius; his skinny best friend, Corey; his eternally-cheerful respiratory therapist, Heidi; and her boyfriend, an elusive janitor named Lamb--determines whether or not an explosive tragedy will visit a small town.
Notes:
from the author: SWEETNESS is a play about making the bad go away. When I first started working on it, I had planned it as a response to the 1999 Columbine massacre. I wanted to see if I could worm my way into the heads of the kids who perpetrated such violence and changed the way we thought of teenagers who perceive themselves as outsiders. My own experiences as a sometimes-bullied, sometimes-bullying suburbanite also wove their way through my early attempts at writing this play. Then 9/11 happened, and I was living in New York, trying to grapple with what had happened to my city, to 3000 people working in my city. I remember wanting not to have to analyze it, wanting to simply categorize the actions of the terrorists as Evil, which is really an end point, a terminusand theres not much you can do with a terminus but stop and be still, or turn around and go back into hiding. This is when SWEETNESS really began to take shape, as I realized what I really wanted to write about was how we respond to violence, how the hunger for vengeance can overwhelm us but also instruct uschallenge us, really. Challenge us to find a new way. I wondered if new ways were still possible after the Towers went down. But 9/11 only influenceddid not swallow upwhat was always essentially a story about two young outcastsone overweight, one gay--struggling to find some semblance of peace in suburbia, and some way to manifest hope in each other.
