Martin and Evangeline are separated and promise to find each other and stay true. Years pass - Evangeline's friends tell her she must give up hoping to find Martin and get on with her life. But she takes no notice and waits for Martin as the years roll on. there is an outbreak of fever along the coast and Evangeline and the priest go to minister to the sick.
