John-Michael was born on November 1st 1949. He graduated from Berea High School, Ohio in 1966. He wrote "Godspell" at the age of 22 as his Masters thesis project. He was studying Greek and Roman mythology. He went to an Easter vigil at St. Paul's Cathedral, Pittsburgh and because of the way he was dressed - T-shirt and overalls he was frisked by police for drugs. This spurred him into a writing frenzy - the result being "Godspell". John-Michael directed numerous plays and received the award for the Most Promising Director of 1971 presented by New York Drama Desk. He co-wrote the film adaptation of "Godspell". He died , aged 36 on April 2nd 1985 of a heart attack.
