Roland Tec's plays, films and operas have been seen throughout the U.S., Europe, South America as well as in Africa and Australia and he has received commissions from such organizations as Concorde, Harvard University, and the Ann & Gordon Getty Foundation, among others. His play, BODILY FUNCTION (2000 Edward Albee Award; 2001 O'Neill finalist) premiered at The Culture Project in New York City. Before moving to New York City in 2001, Tec served as Founding Artistic Director of New Opera Theatre Ensemble in Boston, which presented new works of music-theatre in such unlikely venues as the The Boston Public Library and the Charles Hayden Planetarium. In 1998, Tec was the first artist to be represented in both the music and the film sections of the prestigious South by Southwest festival in Austin, TX, with a live concert by New Opera Theatre Ensemble and the screening of his film, ALL THE RAGE. Tec is currently at work on two upcoming feature films, THE WRECK BEHIND US (based on his stage play) and RED STATE PROJECT. His short play, SNIFFING OUT THE IMPOSTORS, was recently commissioned for the centennial celebration of the Byrdcliffe Artist Colony, at which Tec was a resident in 2001. His first feature film, ALL THE RAGE, which he wrote, directed and scored, was released in the U.S. and abroad and was called "One of the sharpest, sexiest and most amusing satires of gay life ever filmed" by the Los Angeles Times. Roland Tec is a member of The Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers and The Dramatists Guild.

Bodily Function (formerly: Rapt)
Synopsis:
In the efficiency-minded world of Corporate America, time is money and Donald Trieblasser has been pissing away company resources. . . literally. As he is told at his one-year review by Suzanne Goodman, VP of HR at Global Com, even though his overall performance is quite good, his frequent trips to the bathroom are a detriment to overall efficiency and workplace morale. Thus begins a play that examines a variety of modern views of the body -- as vehicle of industry, as object of sexual desire, as a troublesome nuisance plagued by imperfection, and as a work of Art. Bodily Function is an examination of a culture in which the body has come to represent something to be at once feared, worshipped and, above all, controlled.

Personal Effects of Annie Solomon, The (formerly: Fault)
Synopsis:
Helen has come to help Pat prepare for what should be a joyous occasion, the wedding of her only child. As Pat and Helen stuff wedding invitations, the shadows of their history will not be still. Despite their best efforts, these two women cannot avoid the long-held regrets, unspoken disappointments and hidden betrayals that have eroded their friendship in the eleven years since Helen's only child ran away from home never to return alive. What ensues is a chilling and sensitive portrayal of the life choices that can poison even the closest of friendships. This Drama explores the burdens placed on a thirty-year friendship by the loss of a child and in so doing, raises questions about the meaning of loyalty, motherhood and ultimately, the very nature of friendship itself.

Rubber Room, The
Synopsis:
In the late '60s, the United Federation of Teachers, the Department of Education, and the Mayor's Office of New York instituted Reassignment Centers where teachers accused of infractious behavior were sent to vegetate while their "cases" were being slowly adjudicated. The Rubber Room puts three infamous teachers in a new Reassignment Center and introduces a reporter in their midst. They are each accused of a serious infraction about which each of them claims innocence. The reporter is on a Reconnaissance Mission. The new Security Guard already resents them. The production is being staged in a unique way: Five directors have been given the script. They will each cast their five characters and begin the month of rehearsals. At no time during this rehearsal period will the actors or directors of each separate cast work with each other or communicate on their process. For each performance, the Production Stage Manager will call one actor/character from each of the five companies. Each actor thus notified will arrive at the theatre pre-show and be kept isolated from the other actors. Thus, when the actor steps on stage, and enters The Rubber Room, he/she will be meeting the other actors for the first time - as do the characters in the play.

Wreck Behind Us, The
Synopsis:
The Wreck Behind Us views the death of soap star Evelyn Beckett from the perspective of the husband and gay son she left behind. On the morning of June 3, 1969, Evelyn Beckett woke to a world of possibilities. She was the star of a top-rated daytime Drama, she was fielding offers from Hollywood and she was the proud mother of three "clever little rascals," as she liked to call them. She was, in her words, "on top of the world." By the end of that day, she would be dead. Told in four monologues spanning a period of roughly three decades, The Wreck Behind Us explores the ways in which the lives of the survivors are shaped by the untimely death of a wife and mother. The play is based on the true story of the actress mother of a childhood friend of the playwright and her tragic death in a 1969 car wreck.
