Danusia Trevino is an actor, playwright and solo performer who lives in New York City. Danusia is originally from Poland. She studied playwriting with Julie McKee, Susan Sandler, Gretchen Cryer, Dael Orlandersmith and Charles Mee. She wrote and performed her first solo performance An American Aunt while at the University of Lodz in Poland. Next was a multimedia show combining her photographs and text Being Polish which was shown in 1986 at Hastings- on-Hudson Gallery, followed by an exhibition at Film in the Cities Gallery Space in Minneapolis. She was a collaborator on Bedrooms Stories presented at Dance Space Studios in NY. Her solo play Wonder Bread had its first staged reading under the title The wrong tie at Café WOW, NY in April of 2005, followed by a reading at Lee Negrin Gallery. Shortly after she met the Russian director Aleskey Burago who directed her and was and continues to be a vital part of the shape that Wonder Bread took. Danusia was invited to perform excerpts of Wonder Bread at the Players Club for an event celebrating the life of Anne Meara and Jerry Stiller. Since then Wonder Bread has been performed at HB Playwrights Theater, at Theatre for the New City, 2010 United Solo Festival at Theatre Row, (Best One Woman Show Award), at 59 East 59 Theaters and at Edinburgh Fringe International Festival to critical acclaim.

Wonder Bread
Synopsis:
This is Danusia Trevino's story of coming to America, and coming into herself. A solo show, Wonder Bread is a fairy tale-like odyssey about a farmer's daughter from behind the Iron Curtain. Escaping her poor village in Poland, where she helped her family grow tomatoes, she flew here first for a three week vacation and subsequently came back to stay. Eventually she achieved the secure married life in America that her parents had wanted for her, but realized that it was not exactly what she desired. At 28, she met Iggy Pop and experienced teenage rebellion. She rejected her past, painfully tried to reinvent herself over and over, only to realize one truth: there is no hope for happiness without the acceptance of one's roots.
