Balkanized At Sunrise
Balkanized At Sunrise
Synopsis:
In 1997, Joe was hired by the Croatian government to pen the official biography of then-president, now deceased, Franjo Tudjman. Although not a historian, Joe had written one previously published (humor) book: "The Official Alien Abductee's Handbook", so this made him unconventionally qualified to write a biography of an authoritarian Balkan leader. In this theatrical re-enactment, Joe navigates between toadying government aides, lying politicians, harassed dissident journalists, and Croatian and Bosnian women looking for a quick visa. Joe's search for the meaning of the war between the Serbs, Croats and Muslims is compounded by his search for why he was hired in the first place - and his even bigger search for the truth about his own complicity. A comic and thrilling innocent-abroad story, "Balkanized at Sunrise" is a fascinating political, moral, and sexual expose: Graham Greene meets Woody Allen.
