Niko Tsakalakos is a singer/songwriter whose debut solo album, The First Snow, was released on March 5, 2013. As a musical theatre composer-lyricist, his works include Alexander Supertramp (Perseverance Theatre, Commission, 2014; The Ground Floor Residency, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, 2013); Fall Springs: A Musical Disaster (Theatreworks, Silicon Valley, Workshop, 2013; Ars Nova, Reading, 2013; New Dramatists, Workshop, 2012), Pool Boy (Provincetown Playhouse, NYU Steinhardt Production, 2012; Barrington Stage Company [BSC], World Premier, 2010), Litter: The True Story of the Framingham Dodecatuplets (American Conservatory Theatre, World Premier, 2011), Duck for President (TheatreworksUSA, Co-composer, Spring & Fall Tours, 2010-2012), Driving West (Ars Nova, Concert Reading, 2011), The Niko Songbook (BSC, 2012; Birdland, 2012; Walter Bruno Auditorium, 2011), Songs of a Night Owl (Ars Nova, ant Fest, 2009; BSC, Word Premier, 2008), and Late Nite with Niko (Zipper Factory, 2007; BSC, World Premier, 2007). His original film scores include Rock, Paper, Scissors: The Way of the Tosser (Alliance Films, 2007). His songs have been heard at New York venues such as Joe's Pub, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, The Zipper Factory, and Birdland. In Los Angeles, his band Saint Friday performed at venues such as The Viper Room, The Roxy and The Troubadour. He is a two-time recipient of UCLA Barry Manilow Scholarship, sponsored by Barry Manilow and Concord Records, for "excEllence in the art and craft of lyric writing." He is an inaugural artist of the Rhinebeck Writers Retreat (2011) and resident of Ars Nova at the Vineyard Arts Project (2012). He received an M.F.A. in Musical Theatre Writing from New York University in 2008 under the mentorship of William Finn.
