Claire Urwin's first play How Hard it Happens won the International Student Playscript Competition after successful runs in both Manchester and at the Edinburgh Fringe where it received an NSDF commendation for new writing. the play was developed on a writing for performance course ran in conjunction between the University of Manchester's Drama department and the Royal Exchange Theatre. Claire was invited to take part in the NSDF ensemble 2009. She worked as a script editor on Chris Thorpe's play Touched which was performed at Oxford's North Wall Festival before transferring to Latitude. Claire has a BA in Drama with English from the University of Manchester where she is currently completing an MA in creative writing for which she was awarded the school's bursary, awarded each year to the most promising poet. Claire's first full collection of poetry is called the Phone Bill.
