Orpheus Complex, The

Synopsis:
From Ovid to Cocteau, the myth of Orpheus is the eternal mystery play of loss, sacrifice, and the shaking of one's self in order to find one's self. Set in an absurd and imaginary psychiatric institution, under the spell of an eccentric alienist, Ange Fou's adaptation of the myth portrays the descent of Orpheus into the underworld . This leap into a personal hell, a madness with scenes coming and going as in Alice, appears as an x-ray of the mind. In this voyage through the labyrinth of love , populated by a vaudevillian like mythic family, Orpheus is torn between his beloved Eurydice and his fascination for the mysterious incarnation of death. His dark night of the soul is an Everyman quest of being by dying through loving.
