After the Gods
Synopsis:
If someone died in front of you, would you know what to do? How long would you discuss your plans before you did something? Two minutes? Ten minutes? Twelve hours? In this darkly funny play the intellectual rivalries in a small university town take on epic proportions. Where are the police? Where is the body? Why is the clingfilm still on the salads? And is there anything left to say about Shakespeare? Language and sexual identity are at the heart of Steve Waters' erudite and incisive look at academic life, where desire and egomania obscure the true questions of our time.

Capernaum
the King James Version of the Bible (KJV) is a foundation stone of the English language. the KJV was composed as a collective project and written to be spoken. Sixty-Six Books has been created, in the spirit of the original, in the same way. Pulpit to print; stage to page; mediated through many forms oral and written, the KJV has, since its inception, been a fundamental part of written and spoken English. This is a work that has travelled to every continent of the globe. It has been shared as a melodic instrument of inspiration, illumination and mutual understanding; and it has also been wielded as a tool of colonial oppression. Sixty-Six Books is a fresh interpretation of the KJV for the new millennium, celebrating and challenging the traditions and achievements of this great work on the occasion of its 400th anniversary. the curators of this project have gathered together a formidable and inspiring line-up of the best established and emerging writing talent to produce a new version of the KJV for thetwenty-first century. Each writer has created anew a book of the KJV - as prose, poetry, Drama, performance, song, or ground-breaking digital form. Each writer has spoken back to the KJV with untrammeled inventiveness of the imagination. the voices of Sixty-Six Books, drawn from across five continents, innovate, transmute, transpose, reinvent and talk back to four hundredyears of history. All the works that make up Sixty-Six Books are written to be spoken. Culminating in major performance events at the Bush theatre and Westminster Abbey in 2011 in London, Sixty-Six Books is a contribution towards the mutual curiosity, tolerance, and force of collective enterprise and shared humanity that characterizes the international and ancient Arts of writing and spoken performance

Clare's Walk
Synopsis:
Come with us on a trip from London to the Fens in search of John Clare - poet, visionary and lunatic. Follow the same journey the celebrated poet made in 1841 when he walked for three days to his home near Peterborough from the Epping Forest asylum where he had been incarcerated. Along the way, a succession of characters help to reveal the hidden landscapes of the A1 corridor and expose the environmental issues that should concern us all. Deepened and illuminated by Clare's own verse and prose, the play offers a thoughtful, topical and engrossing voyage through our own corner of this green and pleasant land.

Fast Labour
A powerful play about the growing culture of human exploitation in the UK, delving below the surface to reveal a personal account of life as a migrant worker. In Ukraine, Victor had a business, a family and a home, but things have changed and he's fled to the UK in search of a better life. Now he's doing everything from gutting fish to picking carrots. But Victor's a strong-minded man. He's not staying at the bottom of the economic food chain, he's going to build a business of his own and play the gang masters at their own game.

Little Platoons
A group of West London parents are driven by desperation to take the new government up on their offer and start their own 'free school'. they want to create an education that their children will enjoy rather than endure. But as they find their lives given over to a disturbing version of the Big Society, their fervour turns to panic. Free schools are getting ready to transform from policy idea to classroom reality. But what do we know about them? This dark new comedy takes the Pulse of Coalition Britain, by exploring what the retreat of the state and the growth of people power might actually mean. Moving from satiric comedy to poignant family Drama, it asks why we're all so obsessed with education and what happens when we get what we wish for
