Beauty and the Beast
celebrate the fickle world of the fairytale as fortunes fail, dreams are dashed and love is tested to the limits. Faced with a bitter choice, can one man leave his beloved daughter at the hands of a beast? In order to save her father, Belle must cross the threshold into a grown up world. Can she find the courage to enter the beast's castle? This energetic and fast moving production brings real spark to a classic folktale. Butterfly Kiss
Synopsis:
the writer has created a mysterious but revealing piece of theatre that reflects the hopes and fears of the rising generation. Charles Way explains: Our dreams are often wildly fantastical, but they are nearly all composed of elements derived from our own experience. It was this thought that lead me to wonder about the dreams of teenagers. What might they reveal about the concerns of the dreamers? Consequently a number of dream' workshops with the youth theatre provided the material for the play.
Notes:
the experimental production is written by international Award-winning playwright Charles Way, And explores the nightly dreams of young people.

Cinderella
The play is set in Germany at the time when a young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was trying to become a court composer. His music is key to this adaptation of the famous tale, and his composer's baton is not after all dissimilar to a magic wand. Thus the healing power of art and love is explored in this timeless romance. Indeed time itself, as in music, is key to the emotional sequence of events as the young Cinderella tries to overcome grief and find a new life, in rapidly changing times.

Ghosts of Scrooge, The
Synopsis:
Based, of course, on A Christmas Carol, this text uses the famous story to argue with Dickens about the plausibility of a man like Scrooge becoming nice' overnight. Here it is the will of Bob Cratchit and wife plus some politically motivated ghosts that engineer the turnabout in Scrooge's character. None of the famous scenes are lost however and the adaptation stays true to Dickens beginning, middle and cathartic end.

Golden Goose, The
Once upon a time there was a boy called Dummling and everyone believed he was stupid just because of his name. He lived in a poor cottage in the woods with his mother and brother. One day he meets an old man in the woods and shares his humble supper with him. the man is in fact the King of the fairies and a direct descendant of Oberon. He and his Queen, Titania, need to get a worthy and humane king on the throne of the blighted land in which they live, a king who will save the forest in which the fairies live from destruction. the Fairy King gives Dummling good luck in the form of a magical golden goose. When he takes it home his mother and brother try to take it from him but once they touch the goose they find they cannot let go and what's more they find that they cannot stop running. Run they must and run they do all the way to the palace where, as it chances, there resides the very mirror of their own family, but posh. the King Conrad has two daughters, Dajona who won't laugh and Birgit who won't stop. the King has sent out a proclamation that whoever makes his daughter laugh can have her hand in marriage, and thus be in line for the throne. When Dajona sees the Golden Goose and the people stuck to it, running for all they are worth she burst out laughing. the King is thrilled until he discovers that the boy who made her laugh is called Dummling and is a peasant. He sends Dummling on two ridiculous quests but Dummling, with the help of the fairy kingdom, succeeds in fulfilling both and thus becomes King thus completing a bloodless revolution and saving the Fairy Kingdom.

Hard Times
the prosperity of Coketown, dominated by hardline educationalist Thomas Gradgrind and the overbearing businessman Josiah Bounderby, is built on the cotton mills where thousands of men and women slave away. Gradgrind's doctrine, which banishes imagination and trumpets only the importance of facts and material progress, damages his children Louisa and Tom, leading to scandal and disaster. Hard Times will be a promenade production, with the audience being taken through the mill as the performance progresses, and will be performed in the atmosphEric setting of Murrays' Mills, a restored Victorian mill in Ancoats, the old industrial quarter of Manchester.

Merlin And the Cave Of Dreams
The King is dead and the green Kingdom is in turmoil as it seeks a new heir. Only the wizard Merlin knows the future lies in the hands of the young boy Arthur, a boy brought up by a loving couple (Sir Ector and Gwyneth) whom he believes to be his birth parents. On his fourteenth birthday however, Arthur learns that he is in fact the heir to the throne. Confused and angry, he runs into the woods and finds Merlin's Cave of Dreams'. It is here that his past and future are revealed in glorious visions and adventures that will change his life forever. Merlin and the Cave of Dreams looks specifically at the challenges the young have searching for identity and purpose in life. It uses themes of adoption and parenting to shed light on a journey experienced by all of us growing up. In the cave of dreams Arthur meets arrange of mythic beings who help him on his journey: Rhitta the giant and the enormously ugly Washer at the ford. He travels to Avalon to talk to his deceased mother (Igraine) and then onward to confront his birth father, Uther Pendragon.

Tinderbox, The
Jonas, a handsome young soldier discovers treasure beyond his wildest dreams when he finds a tinderbox which gives him power beyond other mortals. the Tinderbox is an epic journey tale, from rags to riches, though war, political intrigue, the depths of despair to the heights of love and passion. It is a classic everyman tale inspired by the Hans Andersen story but not a copy of it. This version of the tale reflects Andersen's own life as he searched for fame and fortune. Jonas' adventures explore friendship, betrayal and the importance of staying true to ones values. Exciting and touching, the story includes a fantastical range of characters- a witch, a king, a beautiful opera singer and a dog with eyes as big as saucers.
