Joel Weiss' compositions include the musical Tess' Last Night - produced by W&W Productions and ran at the Sal Goodman Theater in New York City, as well as being selected to be part of the 2003 NYC Fringe Festival; two one-act operas Ferris Wheel and Ophelia which will be produced by Christopher Street Opera for their inaugural season in November 2009 at the Wings Theater in NYC; the oratorio the theophany of Isaiah; the choral pieces Choose commissioned by the Arts Council of Rockland, and God is gone up with a triumphant shout commissioned by St. John's Lutheran in NYC; and numerous art songs which have been performed all across the country most recently by tenor Corey Trahan at the AsHLAwn HigHLAnd Music Festival in Virginia in the summer of 2009. Joel is the founder of the St. Blaise Foundation; named after the patron saint of throats, it raises money for cancer research. Originally from Virginia, Joel is a graduate of the Catholic University of America, and now resides in Tribeca, NYC.

Synopsis:
the unlikely love story of two lonely people who are forced to ride together on an old country ferris wheel. She's afraid of heights. He's afraid to quit smoking. they are both afraid of each other.

Conceived As A black-box opera, Ferris Wheel is A one-act opera for two singers (soprano And tenor) with piano Accompaniment. the setting is two folding chairs placed side by side or A small bench, And the motion of the ferris wheel can be created by the movement of the Actors - gradually leaning forward going up, leaning backwards going down.

Ophelia
Synopsis:
