Synopsis:
This new work from NYU alumna Denise Wesch explores the identity struggles within the conflicts of relationships. Written, directed and co starring the 22-year-old, the story derives from the different facets of her personality that went into deep analysis during her time in Accra, Ghana, where she lived for four months studying abroad. Finding similarities in the way in which relationships can come together or go awry despite the cultural difference inspired her to write this show. they do not know me says the Lord Jeremiah 9:3 is a show about a group of individuals searching for clarity in the relationships in their lives and the discovery of their personal truths despite outside convictions. It takes a look at different perspectives in labeling a significant other, an individual's feelings for that other and what the actions of each actually represent. Posing more questions than definitive answers to the complexities of relationships, this show engages the audience by taking a Brechtian approach and breaking that fourth wall. Thus the audience can see themselves in the characters and truly reflect on the themes and issues presented. An intricate and brilliant meddling of poetry and prose in everyday language this is a multimedia piece that incorporates filmed scenes, movement, and songs, in an intimate space. Adding to the dynamic are projections of literature that appear in between scenes from writers like bell hooks.
