Act I, dotted with odd lines of familiar poetry and recollections of two sisters` childhood, provides an ominous background to the troubled memories which unfold in Act II. Letters in 'flashback' from World War I resonate with the current dialogue and similarly Act II with Act I. As in life, the dialogue is sad and funny at the same time. the roles of the two sisters and their neighbour are enviable challenges for three actresses with humour and timing who age 20 years between Act I and Act II. This play will appeal to the older generation, but younger audiences will appreciate how people spoke and behaved in those days. Single set.
