Samuel Brett Williams hails from Hot Springs, Arkansas, where he was raised in a strict Southern Baptist environment. He received his BA in English and Political Science from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and his MFA in Playwriting from Rutgers University, where he studied under Lee Blessing. Brett's plays have been produced at Cherry Lane Theatre, Stageworks/Hudson, Mile Square Theatre, New Orleans Theatre Experiment, and the District of Columbia Arts Center. His plays have been selected for the Eugene O'Neill National Playwrights' Conference, the Philadelphia New Play Festival, the New Plays from the New South Festival, and Best New American Plays 2004-2005 (published by Applause Books). Brett recently received the 2008 Helen Merrill Emerging Playwright Award. He is currently the playwright in residence at Playwrights' Theatre of New Jersey, and he is a member of the Dramatists Guild of America and Ars Nova Play Group. Brett teaches Screenwriting, Expository Writing, and Playwright/Director Relationship for Rutgers University. He is twenty-six years old.

Seeking refuge in two childhood friends, he ends up exposing a secret the small, religious town would rather keep buried. Derby Day
Synopsis:

Their father has just died, and Frank, the oldest, has flown down from Chicago to see the angry newlywed Ned and the ex-con Johnny. Trash Bag Tourist
The Trash Bag Tourist portrays the relationship between ancient, manipulative Dorothy and her rundown, rodeo clown daughter Molly. They are both stuck in a wheel-less trailer in Arkadelphia, Arkansas when a Katrina victim (Chuck) shows up, threatening their already hostile relationship.
