Genevieve Yates is a family physician and medical educator from Northern NSW, Australia, who's passionate about putting creativity into medicine and medicine into creativity. Genevieve writes for several medical publications and is a regular columnist for Australian Doctor and Good Practice. She has had several short stories published and a short film produced. Her first novel, 'silver Linings', was published in 2011. She's also worked in film and TV, and performed on stage in plays, musicals and stand-up comedy. Genevieve teaches violin, plays piano, sings and plays in two orchestras. In 2010 she was awarded the "Arts and Health Australia Awards for ExcEllence: Medical Humanities and Education award" and nominated for "National Medical Educator of the Year". Her debut as a playwright and director was in May 2010 with Adam and Eve, which has since been published by Australian Script Centre. She was placed 5th and 6th in the MAID2 PLAY Dogwood Playwrights Initiative 2010, for Adam and Eve and Death by Sausage, and won the Audience Choice Award at Armidale Fav Shorts for If the Shoe Fits in 2011. In 2013, GP the Musical, co-written with fellow GP, Gerard Ingham, was performed at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Adam And Eve
Synopsis:
Adam and Eve is a love story. Eve, a studious final year medical student, meets Adam, a lovable larrikin from outback Queensland, in the medical school library at the Royal Brisbane Hospital in 1999. the attraction is immediate and they soon find themselves caught up in a whirlwind romance. Unfortunately, their relationship is complicated by Adam's long and difficult battle with testicular cancer. . . a battle which Adam ultimately loses in November 2000. the play is based on the true story of the playwright's boyfriend, Adam, who died of testicular cancer at the age of 22. Special attention has been paid to keeping the details as historically accurate as possible. the names of people and places have not been altered.

Death by Sausage
Synopsis:
Sisters Rachel and Linda hatch a plan to tell their somewhat difficult mother news that she will not want to hear. the plan does not go to plan. Family secrets are revealed and long held beliefs of the characters challenged as the play unfolds, with several plot twists along the way. the play is a comedic and irreverent exploration of the complexities of family relationships, romantic attachments and modern society.
Notes:
Adjudicator's award in the Beenleigh Festival of One Act Plays August, 2010. 5th place in the National M.A.I.D.2 PLAY Dogwood Playwrights Competition 2010. there is both a one act and a two act version of this play. the two act version has an extra character (a male role).
