Synopsis: | explores the value of friendship and the power of a child's imagination. Young people can be encouraged to use creative play with their friends rather than rely on commercial toys to fulfill their entertainment needs. This script is a Canadian adaptation of the renowned GRIPS Theatre hit in Berlin. Jason, Elli, Kim and Bobby all go to the same school. Bobby's father owns the Toys by Trumm toy factory, which is the chief employer of the town. The children tend to keep their distance from Bobby since he taunts them with expensive toys from his father's factory, then asks for money for the privilege of playing with them. Jason eventually succumbs to temptation and offers Bobby some money in order to try a popular robot toy. He soon regrets this since the robot breaks while Jason is playing with it. Jason's life becomes even more complicated when his mother is laid off at the toy factory. The children visit Mr. Trumm at his office to try and convince him to give Jason's mother her job back, but are unsuccessful. The children then devise a different strategy. They invent an imaginative game that does not require any commercial toys. The next time Bobby approaches them with the latest fantastic Trumm toy, the children ignore him and won't let him participate in their new game unless he can convince his father to reconsider his decision. Jealous that the others don't need him any more, Bobby tells his father about the children's creation. In turn, Mr. Trumm envisions the new game as a money-making opportunity and agrees to meet with the other children. Jason's mother is re-hired and Jason, Kim and Elli teach Bobby that creating games by using the imagination can be just as much fun as any commercial toy. | |||||
